Before you begin Find a calm space and a heatproof surface or dish nearby. Keep the room ventilated. Set aside a few minutes where you won't be interrupted — this ritual is meant to be unhurried.

The steps

  1. Light it. Hold a flame to the tip until it glows steadily and evenly.
  2. Settle in. Sit comfortably. Take a slow breath.
  3. Warm gently. Hold the glowing tip a comfortable distance from the skin — close enough to feel the warmth, never close enough to touch or feel discomfort.
  4. Stay a while. Let the gentle warmth settle for a few quiet minutes.
  5. Close the ritual. When you're finished, extinguish the stick fully in a heatproof dish and make sure it is completely out.

A few gentle notes

  • Keep the tip moving slowly; never let it rest against the skin.
  • If at any point the warmth feels too strong, simply move it further away.
  • Tap away ash regularly into your dish so the warmth stays even.
